Ons ledenbestand is gevarieerd: van nét 16 tot achter in de 40, van mensen die voor ’t eerst in hun leven sporten tot mensen die met skates aan geboren zijn. Van fanatiekelingen die het nationale team willen halen, tot mensen die vooral lekker willen rollen. Iedereen is welkom, ongeacht achtergrond en ervaring.
We were founded in 2011 by General Teresa and Kamikaaskop under the name Northern Lightning Rollergirls. Northern Lightning Rollergirls is one of the first roller derby teams in the Netherlands and the first in the northern part of the country. A few years later Roaring Thunder Men’s Derby started, the very first men’s team in the Netherlands. After training together for a long time, we decided to merge these two clubs in 2017. Since then, we have mainly played games with our mixed team Thunder & Lightning.
Roller derby is an amateur sport: everything is organised by and for the skaters. That means we have to do everything ourselves: find a place to train, recruit members, promote the sport and organise games. Everything is done by volunteers.
Our members
Even though we are located a little further away from other (Dutch) derby clubs, you can find us everywhere! Our team plays games play games and tournaments across the country and abroad and our members can often be found at derby events as referees, coaches and announcers.
In addition, several of our members are involved with the national teams as trainers, coaches and skaters.
Roller derby is not just about winning a game, it’s especially about overcoming yourself, physically, or in other areas; ultimately, you realise you can do more than you thought!
